In your own independent reading book, pick a word that you are unfamiliar with. In your post, tell what your word is, and the sentence that it came from. After you have selected a word, look it up and give the definition for it.

I am reading the book Blindsided and the word I don't know is flailing. The sentence it came from is Now that she focused on it, she could see there was a lot of FLAILING about going on. The definition is to thresh or beat with or as if with a flail.#12

I am reading As Simple as it Seems my word is syndrome. It means a group of symptoms that together are characteristic of a specific disorder disease or the like. Number 5!

My word this week is commemorate the sentence I found that word in is... It made sence for Dad to COMMEMORATE that day with letters. In the dictionary the word means... To serve as a memorial or reminder.#7

We'll it is easy but there was no other word so treadmill and it mean a machine that you can run on and you can choose if you want to go fast or slow.

My word is loafers witch came from the sentance (But everybody knows you cant by loafers for such a little guy).
Loafers are a shoe for informal wear, shaped like a moccasin. #8

The word I chose is ocular.The word ocular mean the eyes or sight. The sentce it is in is" but there was an extra helping of dread that Violet and Sunny felt when they began reading Advanced Ocular science .

my word is decibels, decibels cam from this sentence.I'm not sure what the fire alarm sounded like in the gym, but it was about ten thousand decibels in that stairwaell. The definintion is a unit used to express the intensity of a sound wave. #17

Unconscious . Without a word, I'd hitched my backpack high on my shoulders and started scrambling away, leaving the pickup and the two figures behind me, one unconscious and one completely confused and shouting. It means without awareness.#4
